Frequently Asked Questions

Do we have to book?
Yes, booking is essential for all activities.  We would recommend booking at least a week in advance, especially during the busy months.  Our diary is open for the whole year so it's never too early to get in touch!
How old do children have to be to ride?

We would recommend children are at least 3 years old to take part in one of our rides.  This is just due to balance and being able to sit unassisted on the pony.  If you have a wee one younger than this, we can organise a wee shot on a pony around the yard.
Do you provide riding hats?
Yes, we have a large number of hats of various sizes available, at no extra charge.
What is the best clothing to wear for riding?
We suggest comfortable clothes, close fitting trousers and a closed toe shoe/boot with a small heel. Waterproofs are also handy to bring - just in case!  Please note that sandals or shorts/skirts are not suitable for safety reasons.
What if the weather is bad?
Rides go ahead in almost all weather - if we didn't ride in the rain here, we'd never ride!!  Rides are only cancelled if the weather is deemed unsafe (snow, ice or storms) but we will inform you as soon as possible if the decision is made to cancel your booking.
How early should I arrive for my ride?
We would suggest arriving 20 minutes before you are due to ride.  This leaves enough time for forms to be filled out and hats to be chosen.  We require a Rider Registration Form to be completed for every rider.  If you wish to fill this out ahead of your visit, you can download it on the 'Lessons & Trekking' page under the 'Services' menu on this site.
Do you have a weight limit?
Yes, currently we have a weight limit of 15 stone.
We are a group with mixed riding ability, is this okay?
Absolutely!  The group will go at the pace of the least experienced rider.  Where possible, we can sometimes allow the more advanced riders to have a trot/canter before joining up with the group again.  This may not always be possible but we will try our best.
I am an experienced rider, can I book an experienced ride?
Yes.  For experienced riders (unless booking with a less experienced partner/friend/group) we will always book you in with others of the same ability so that you can enjoy an experienced ride.  Experienced riders can book on a novice ride if they wish to enjoy a ride at a more novice-level pace however experienced rides are unable to accommodate novices.

Do you take card payments?
No, unfortunately we don't have any card facilities so we can only accept cash payments or bank transfer.
Are dogs allowed in the yard?
We have a yard dog called Roy who is very friendly however, isn't so friendly with other dogs.  You are very welcome to take your dog out at the yard but we just ask that you let a staff member know before you take them out of the car - this allows us to pop Roy away beforehand.  Thank you!
